Certifying Ordsall Chord

NCB has been appointed to act as the Notified Body, Designated Body and Assessment Body for LNW ‘Central Projects Package A’ scheme which is part of the Northern Hub programme.

The aim of the project is to create the Ordsall Chord which will be the first direct link between Manchester Victoria and Piccadilly stations. This involves remodelling the existing Ordsall Lane junction and the associated resignalling works. As part of the scheme the re-control of the signalling infrastructure will pass over to the Manchester ROC.

The scheme will also deliver capacity improvements to the west of Manchester Victoria station and in order to facilitate the new infrastructure a number of city centres structures will have to be strengthened and modified.

The cost of the works is currently set at circa £900million. Completion is targeted for August 2017, with passenger services using the Chord from the December 2017 timetable change.
